While most of Cairns was curled up on the couch in pyjamas last Sunday night, I was enjoying an altogether different kind of evening. Sitting on the edge of my seat at The Pier Bar Cairns, I helped judge the finals for the International Lingerie Model Search, which was a first for me. One by one, each of the nine entrants strutted their stuff on the catwalk, all looking fiercely competitive. With some of the ladies taking months to prepare their outfits for all three heats, this is not an event to be taken lightly. We’re talking Victoria’s Secret-standard, custom-made lingerie here guys! If you are thinking of entering next year, Cottontails just won’t cut it – think angel wings, floral and Greek goddess. Lauren Higgs and Olivia Walker made an impression with their spectacular theme wear, but it was bronzed beauty Micayla Balsamo who took home the winner’s sash. Micayla is extremely excited to be flying to the Gold Coast to represent Cairns in the state finals.

In another first, I attended a touching event in support of well-known local Jenny Lock from Freeman’s Residential. Jenny has just completed chemotherapy and radiation in an aggressive battle against bowel cancer and is now awaiting surgery. The tight-knit team at Freeman’s hosted a Cancer Council Biggest Morning tea raising $500 and enough calories to fuel a small village. Thanks for the toothache guys and all the best, Jenny.
