Eating food or cooking food or even eating while cooking food – its all bloody brilliant.
When I got told I had to spend my Saturday evening sampling Tropical Catering and Events finest with some of Cairns influential food bloggers, I was absolutely wrapped. Saturday 3rd of June was this years first Instameet Foodie Tour sponsored by Tropical Catering and Events.
Before I chop in, I should probably explain what an Instameet actually is. In a nutshell, an Instameet is where people gather in a pre-determined place, at a set time, to take photos then upload them to Instagram. That’s it really…
So, meet we did at out first stop which was at the Northern Pride game and sampled the food they serve in the Legends Bar which was unreal. Double braised pork belly, sushi, peri peri chicken skewers, salmon rolls and salt and pepper calamari with perfectly paired condiments was served to us at a table over looking the game. Honestly such a perfect start to the night. I was joined by Karol Rundell (@foodie_withabooty), Nicky Jurd (@nickyjurd), Andrea Dixon (@hungry.curious), Liz Richards (@simple.nourishment) and Gracyn Masterson (@gracyn_masterson23). The bar was set pretty high at the game so we headed off to The Pacific Hotel where we we’re greeted by the wonderful Cathy who is the events manager of the hotel.
For me, this is where the experience went next level. We were lead up the grand stairs to a private set table next to the pool with a chef cooking on a gourmet barbecue set up. We we’re absolutely spoilt. 5 star service with 5 star food. Our first course was a sample of the antipasto options with a cheese platter and a sample of the salads being served at the nights event (Which was the Philippine Independence day). The mains were a sample of the gourmet bbq being served. Melt in your mouth steaks, bratwurst sausage, roast lamb, fried rice, roast potatoes and satay chicken skewers. I was to taken with how amazing the food was I actually forgot about dessert which was hands down the best part.
Dessert came out on a board looking absolutely stunning. 2 macaroon flavours, lemon tarts with coconut meringue, red velvet mini cup cakes, pistachio chocolate with gold leaf and chocolate mousse on chocolate. The best part about this dessert platter? It’s very affordable and avalible in Bushfire which is the restaurant in the hotel and avalible any night of the week. If you haven’t had the Churrasco experience, do yourself a favour and make a reservation right now for Bushfire. It is my favourite restaurant in Cairns and if you dine there you will find out why.
I would say now that a food instameet is quite possibly one of the new favourite things to do. All the bloggers were so interesting and had so much fantastic things to say about food and their backgrounds and there blogs in general. Make sure you check out their socials!
My mouth is watering just thinking about the next one…
